Dr Hilary Ryan

Born in South Africa, Hilary came to New Zealand in 1992 with a medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, she then added a Diploma in Obstetrics from the University of Auckland, and is now happily settled in Masterton.

A practicing GP in a rural town with a strong focus on obstetrics is the ideal situation for Hilary.

“I prefer the variety general practice offers, but in particular working with generations of families – you understand their medical history so well, and really get to know them too.”

Hilary also has a strong interest in psychiatry which she applies to her healthcare approach, and has an active role as a registrar supervisor at Masterton Medical.

Hilary has two school age children with husband, Masterton Medical General Manager Jeff Ryan, and says being a part of the centre has been a truly positive move.

“We love the Wairarapa, it’s such an easy place to live, has great schools, and a strong community feel – and being part of Masterton Medical has allowed us to really enjoy the lifestyle available here.”
