Dr Tim Baily Gibson

Tim ended up a GP in Masterton almost by accident, but says fate’s been kind to him.

“I was travelling around the world from England and got stuck half way.”

Tim qualified as a doctor at St Mary’s Hospital in London, and gained a Diploma in Obstetrics. He then worked as a GP Locum in the UK for a few months. He spent just under two years as Senior House Officer at Masterton Hospital before becoming a GP.

He has a busy maternity practice, but enjoys all aspects of general practice.

“I get to see the joy and sorrow of families from the cradle to the grave – that’s something you don’t find in many jobs.”

Married with six children, Tim’s idea of time off is sailing his 37 foot yacht around the Marlborough Sounds – with the cell phone turned off.

“When you do maternity, you’re always on-call, so I make the most of it when I can.”
