Anthrosophically oriented medicine

Anthroposophical medicine was initiated by Dr Rudolph Steiner who worked with a group of European doctors in the early 1900’s to develop a system of medical diagnosis, treatment and therapeutic measures. This method extended the current practices of medicine by including a view of the human being that identified etheric or life energy, soul disturbances and a spiritual identity that was termed the Ego of the individual.

The work of an Anthroposophical doctor is to understand the diagnosis of a patient where account is taken of these more subtle levels of organization of the human being. So an Anthroposophical diagnosis is built upon orthodox diagnoses and extends the medical view into a more personal or individualized understanding of the disturbed functionality of the individual.

Treatments are then based on a range of medicines that are applied either orally, by injection or to the skin in the form of ointments, compresses or oil applications. A range of therapies have come out of this system of medicine that include a specific massage technique, known as rhythmical massage, nursing therapies, movement and speech therapies and artistic therapies based on all of the of painting, drawing clay modeling and sculpture.

The care of the patient is organized by the doctor after making the diagnosis and then referring the patient to one of these therapists along with the prescribing of medication(s).

In particular Anthroposophical Medicine is effective in the care of children who have not been exposed to prolonged illness and treatment with allopathic drugs and chronic disease in adults where allopathic medicines are doing little other than controlling symptoms.
